Two and a half weeks and it begins!

So Luke and I have our 20 week ultrasound scheduled for Friday, February 26th at 2:00pm. I have to leave work early, but who cares - we get to find out whether we are having a son or a daughter! Both are equally welcome and either way, I can't WAIT to find out what it is! This baby has become so much more real to me in the last week or so, ever since I started feeling it's little movements inside my belly. I swear, it is the most incredible feeling in the world, and I wish that Luke too could experience it! But for now, it looks like he'll have to wait.

It's funny how I've already been pregnant for roughly four months and yet, despite my oh-so-pleasant symptoms of pregnancy, it's almost been kind of surreal and I would find myself thinking "Is there really a baby in there?" But now, the bigger I get and the more I feel it, there is no denying and I am simply in a state of awe! I'm not too sure how much longer I can keep this a "secret" at work, since word on the street is that some of my students already asked another teacher "Is Ms. Konrad pregnant?". And here I thought I could just keep blaming it on holiday eats!

Anyway, the "title" of this post is Two and a Half Weeks and it Begins and goodness gracious is that ever the truth! All I am waiting for is confirmation of Boy or Girl, and then let the shopping madness begin! I've practiced such restraint in NOT buying some of the clothes I've seen, but coincidentally enough the day of our appointment is also my next payday, so it's on! Plus, Luke & I have already decided on Nursery themes for both a boy and a girl. Whatever it is this time, we'll still use the decor we liked for the opposite gender if we happen to have that on the next time around! I can not WAIT to start working on the nursery! Here are some pics of what we've decided. If it's a boy, we're going with the "Ahoy Mate!" theme and if it's a girl, we're going with Cocalo's Daniella theme... this is going to be SO much fun! :-)

16 weeks today!

Today officially begins the 16th week. Last night Luke & I had a doctor's appointment to take a standard blood test. Though the test was less than enjoyable (I hate having blood taken!), we were excited to hear the baby's heartbeat on the doppler. The heart was "whoosh-ing" strong at 166 beats per minute - perfectly healthy, according to Dr. Jakus! Though I still have a feeling that it isa little boy, old wives tales dictate that a heartbeat over 140 is an indication of a girl. Plus, I had a dream last night where the baby was born and it was indeed a little girl. So really, who knows?!? Our doctor told us that we could have an ultrasound in as early as two weeks to find out the gender, but to be safe and make sure that we get an accurrate reading, we are planning on having scheduling the next ultrasound on February 26... LHKZ or ZMZ - we shall see! ;-)

In the meantime, here is a link that shows and describes what is happening in terms of fetal development at 16 weeks:

Disclaimer!

I decided to start a blog, thinking that it would be a decent way to monitor the progress of this pregnancy. However, I am basically computer illiterate and have NO CLUE what I'm doing - from formatting, to adding gadgets, to editing the blog - I'm totally lost! If anyone is more well versed than I (and that would be the majority of the population!) please feel free to give me any tips on how to work this thing!
